We have reason to believe Square Enix will announce a "high-profile remake" at Sony's E3 press conference this year.
Now, we're not about to give away sources but let's look at it this way: Square Enix has suffered a number of financial setbacks this generation and historically, when publishers begin to flounder, they tend to turn to tried-and-true formulas to regain some stability. They have also been bombarded by long-time fans this entire generation and although it appears S-E hasn't listened, things may be changing. You can find evidence of that in some recent Final Fantasy XIII-2 details, which claim the developers "are listening" to the fans.
Plus, remakes have proven to be quite popular in the past, and considering the publisher's position, they may take a gander at their past triumphs. The information we have is a trifle vague and it's possible that the word "remake" may be inaccurate. But based on what we've heard, it doesn't sound like anything that relates to FFXIII-2 or Versus XIII. The bottom line is that Square Enix needs to make a relatively big splash soon, and they won't do it with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. They know they'll do it with something that will say to their fans, "see, we're still here. And we love you." No, seriously.
We've been pretty rough on S-E in the past. But now, we have reason to believe that some very big news is on the horizon... But P.S.: we have no idea which FF might be remade.
